“The object of education is to prepare theyoung to educate themselves throughout their lives.”~Robert Maynard Hutchins
My name is Megan Seigfried and I will be your child’s teacher for the 2016-2017 school year! I am originally from Western Pennsylvania, Go Steelers!!, but moved to Virginia five years ago to start my teaching career. I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from a small college near my hometown where I was a cheerleader and ran an after-school program. I continue to cheer here in Caroline County; I am one of the coaches for the youth football leagues, Go Bulldogs! I enjoy reading, cheering, crafting, cooking/baking, and spending time outside.
I am excited to help your child grow! My goal is to provide an environment where learning is valued, individuals are respected, teamwork is embraced, and where differences are understood as strength. I have developed a program to help meet the individual needs of your child by presenting them with hands on learning and a variety of enriching experiences.
This year, Bowling Green Elementary School’s motto is “Vision+Hardwork=Success, #makeithappen.” I recognize that it takes an army to raise a child and together your child will make great progress. I believe that parent teacher communication plays a large role in your child’s success in school. I will be using the student planers as one method of daily communication, please feel free to jot short notes in your child’s planner as necessary. I also encourage you to call or e-mail me throughout the school year to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I try my best to check my e-mail at least three times a day (before student arrival, lunch, after dismissal); e-mail is one of the easiest ways to get in touch with me. You can also call me at the school, 804-596-2391. Please understand that my time with each student is valuable and that I will do my best to answer your call as soon as possible, hopefully within 24 hours of receiving the e-mail, phone message, or note.
Reading is an essential part in helping your develop. I also strongly believe in the importance of reading nightly, I ask that you and your child spend at least 15 minutes each night reading. Your child will bring home their library books but remember that books are not the only thing you have to read, magazines, newspapers, and other forms of print will benefit your child greatly! We will begin our weekly trips to the public library in October.
Each day, we will have snack or lunch, please send in a snack for your child daily. Please also ensure that your child has a complete change of clothes (label them in a gallon sized bag) as well as pull ups and any other necessary items for toileting.
Ms. Pratt and I will begin our Friday home visits soon. We will write home to set up visits when the time comes.
Our specials schedules is:
Monday – Bowling Green Public Library (beginning in October)
Tuesday – music
Wednesday – BGE library
Thursday – PE (please wear tennis shoes)
Friday – No class
Again, I strongly believe in the importance of a good parent teacher relationship, so if you ever have any questions please send me an e-mail, note, or phone message and I will do my best to contact you as soon as possible. Also, remember that at any point in the school year, your child’s IEP team can meet to make changes to his or her current education plan. I am looking forward to helping your child grow this school year!
